Inspirational Love Poem
~ I Remember Grandfather
by Sherri Havens
i remember grandfather very silent is the darkened
night the stars up above shine oh so bright is that
you grandfather who twinkles just above do you think
of the freedom laughter and love do you see the many
buffalo as they once roamed do you think of
yesterday when the lands were our home do you hear
the wolf as she cries for her mate tell me
grandfather what was his horrible fate do you think
they are allowed to roam peaceful and free or locked
on lands forever trapped as you and me why
grandfather could not the white man seethe lands
were vast for all to roam peaceful and free why lock
us away why and take away our freedom on a small
reservation that has become our prison i remember
the tear that once flowed from your eye as so many
were lead away weak and weary only to die and yes
grandfather i remember all you taught your
heartaches and tears were not forgot you\'re free
now grandfather to roar as the bear as you roam our
lands watching with great care watch us grandfather
for we too shall be free for the indian nation lives
in the heart and soul of me
