I am a fool once more

I fell in love with you today
and, silly me, I tried to say
that forevermore I would play
...your little game

I did not know that you were just flattered
and that my devotion had never mattered
so I looked down when my heart splattered
...at your feet

My soul was crushed beneath your heel
I guess this means I'm not quite real
and that it's irrelevant just what I feel
...about you now

So don't look now, I'll go back home
and you won't have to hear me moan
as I see your sweet eyes roam
...across the crowd

Now from the dark, I see your wings
spread and soar as your spirit sings
you've forgotten me and the little things
...with which I'd hoped to win your heart
