Fall In Love Poem
~ Gateway Drug

by Thomas B. Collins
It starts with something small.
A glance. A second of eye-contact.
A millisecond of brushing hands….
Soon after, it escalates. To something.
Purposely being in close proximity to one another.
Making a conscience effort to spend time….
The downward spiral has begun.
The slippery slope becomes frictionless,
And you’re in freefall…
…both of you.
You fall faster and harder,
But nothing matters;
You’re together at long last.
You’ve drawn in.
From first-time user,
To die-hard addict.
The ground of reality rushes up at you.
You hold each other closer.
Unafraid.
It starts with something small.
Almost nothing ends well,
But shouldn’t the sky-dive down
Be as fun as you can make it?
